The Association
Our story
The Association “I Ragazzi dei Misteri” is a non-profit socio-cultural organization, founded in 2004 in Procida, with the aim of bringing together all those interested in safeguarding and promotion of the Good Friday Procession and its related “Misteri”. This association has played a key role in engaging young people of the island in the construction of the "Misteri", promoting the continuity of this centuries-old tradition.
In the past, at the end of the procession, the scenographic representations were often dismantled, without leaving trace of the work done. To overcome this, the association has established the "Museo dei Misteri" (temporarily closed due to renovations) located in the premises of the former prison near Santa Margherita Nuova. This exhibition space is dedicated to the memory of Ciro Manzueto, one of the main creators in the creation of numerous "Misteri".
In addition to the construction of the "Misteri", in the past the association is involved in other socio-cultural initiatives and creation of artistic works such as the setting up of nativity scenes and scenography also outside the island. Examples are some of the "Allegorical Boats" that parade in the sea in on the occasion of the “Festa di Sant'Anna” which is held every year in Ischia, scenography for the “Sagra del Mare” and numerous other celebrations and festivals that take place held on the island of Procida. In 2014, he created a nativity scene entitled “Jesus gift of the sea” in the little church of Santa Margherita Nuova, later transferred to the Ciro Manzueto Museum.
Today, however, the Association is dedicating itself mostly to redevelopment of new spaces for the construction of "Misteri", for the protection of participants and to try to improve the performance of the procession.
The association's headquarters is located in Terra Murata, in the area of the former prison, where members gather to organize activities and work on their creations. This place has become a creative laboratory. and a meeting point for the island's young people, helping to maintain long live a tradition that is an integral part of Procida's cultural identity.
